About Me....

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks
This page secretly redirects to my About page. If you're seeing this, something went wrong and I should probably give the server a kick.....

I used to have an "About Me" page, but with the change to my new site, I've decided to change things up a little and make it a blog entry. The nice thing is that I've got the power of Apache behind me, letting me use a .htaccess file to redirect traffic from the old file to the new one - all dynamic like and such. It's super cool, really. The best part is, you don't even care. Fun.

me

Father of 4 (as of this writing, 11 years, 8 years and 7 years and 3 years), and married to the love of my life. Computer geek by nature and by trade. I spend too much time in front of displays: tv, monitor, laptop. I enjoy all kinds of stuff, but lately I've been spending too much time with twitter and Facebook.

I am very happily employed. Up until 07/05/02, I was semi-happily employed by the same company that laid me off on 10/5/01. I spent a year being Mr. Mom and trying to do freelance work and such. Then I worked for a computer store/VAR (Value-Added Reseller) in the New Haven area. They were an Apple Authorized resellers/service center, which made me happy - I got to play with newer computers, fix stuff, and just generally do what I like to do. Hardware stuff - fixing computers and such - but I also do software support. I now work full time for a local University that I graduated from (sorry to not actually say it, but you can't be too careful these days....). I have a regular schedule, I get to wander around campus to fix things, and I work with people that I like and respect. Oh, and I don't hate it - in fact, I finally enjoy my work again. Most of the time.

What else do I do? User interface/design/backend stuff for web sites. Tech stuff. Internet stuff (webhosting/config/etc). You could say I'm a jack of all trades.... Email me for my resume for more info. And if you wanna hire me, that'd be cool too.

I used to have a table here with silly stats about myself here, but.... it was a table. That's so 1995. Ugh. I kept my Blogger code: B9 d++ t+ k++ s+ u++ f i+ o+ x-- e+ l+ c. That should keep the geek cred, right?

Here is my social networks "business card"....

I just made a change to the site - I'm now including my posts to flickr and twitter to the home page. I'm sill trying to figure out if I can include them in the archives (should be possible, right?) but in the meantime, this will do the trick. I'm posting this partially to share the news - now it won't look like I never post - and also to test it out and make sure all the loose bits have been tightened up properly.

Jeffrey Zeldman Presents : The vanishing personal site

Our personal sites, once our primary points of online presence, are becoming sock drawers for displaced first-person content. We are witnessing the disappearance of the all-in-one, carefully designed personal site containing professional information, links, and brief bursts of frequently updated content to which others respond via comments. Did I say we are witnessing the traditional personal site's disappearance? That is inaccurate. We are the ones making our own sites disappear.

Now that's pretty darn insightful. Zeldman mentions Jody Ferry's site specifically, and it's a great example: a home page, and then links that take viewers OFF the site.

I've been posting more photos to Flickr than I have to my family galleries. I spend more time on FaceBook - mindless distraction that it is - than I do posting on my own site. And I just joined Twitter, for reasons that I don't know that I fully understand. To what end? I'm not sure.

I see his point - websites used to be all about capturing eyeballs and keeping them on your site. Then people started selling adverts, and it was even more important to keep those visitors coming in and staying in - or leaving through your adverts. Now, with the advent of all these more interesting services, and the ease with which they can be used, more people are just taking advantage of that ease and moving their content elsewhere. Why try to build your own photo gallery - or install someone else's - when you can just point people to your Flickr collection? Why post regularly when you can Twitter? Well, that's not quite the same, but it's similar.

I myself discovered del.icio.us and have all but stopped using the bookmark feature in my web browserS. Why? Part of it is the ease of having my bookmarks so easily available - especially from the multiple platforms and browsers. It's also a lot easier to find bookmarks when I need them - I tag everything going into del.icio.us, sometimes over-tagging them, but it's really easy to find stuff now - rather than spending 20 minutes trying to remember the name of a site, I go to the page for the tag that I believe is the right, and I usually have the link right there.

What does this all mean? I myself have been farming work out to others - and didn't think too much about doing it. Due to the nature of the internet, and the way my account is setup, my photos are public, my Twitters are public, and most of my bookmarks are public. Do I care? Well, sometimes I wonder if I'm sharing too much. But at the same time, I haven't done anything to lock down my family photo gallery - although it would be trivial to do so. I make an effort to keep my bookmarks private when it's not something I want shared with the public. I can do the same thing with my Flickr photos - and have done so in the past. Twitters, well, I guess that's more than a bit like this blog - I can, and do, self-censor. If I didn't, life might be more than a little awkward.

But where does it all lead?

Commenting offline

So, I've noticed that there hasn't been any comment spam on the site for a while - like since I made the change to MT 4.1. Upon trying to comment on something myself, I realized that there is a problem: you can't comment.

I'm trying to figure it out, and when it's working, then, well, you'll be able to comment.

Joy.

That sucked

So, the problem with the new version of the backend that runs this site? It's that it requires a version of MySQL that I don't have access to. That's all geek to you, hopefully, but the long and the short of it is that an upgrade would need to be done to the server before I can upgrade my software. I don't really think that's going to happen anytime soon. This leaves me flustered, flumoxed, and irritated. But enough about that.

I bought a SATA drive a few months ago to go into a USB enclosure. It's super fast, but... not quite fast enough. So then I recently managed to get an external SATA enclosure (two drive) and an SATA Express Card for some super-duper high speed fun (editing a few videos, mostly). I tested it out a couple of times, and it was very nice.

Today, for fun, and since I don't use my computer much at work, I decided to see how long it would take to backup the computer via this new highspeed connection. A long time, apparently.

RIght now, it's doing about 130mb/min. I started it almost 3 hours ago, and it's done just over 20gb of backup, which is about 6gb/hour. That means that for the other 115gb, it would take about 19 hours. That's not... optimal. Of course, I have Mail, Photoshop, and a slew of other programs all running in the background, so that's not helping things. Regardless, it's not as super-duper fast as I had hoped it would. It is, however, still fast. And faster than the USB connected drive.

Now if only I could afford the 3TB of storage that I would probably need for all my data.....

And then the other shoe dropped

Trouble with the upgrade? You bet. I haven't figured out what the problem is, but I believe it's something to do with one of my entries - a misplaced character that's making the server go all weird when I try to publish the site. i'll be working on it tonight, but who knows how long it will take or what, ultimately, will fix it.

And no, Lee, I will NOT just switch to EE :).

I'm very pleased with myself

The reason? This image:
my webcam

Sure, I look like my usual super-mega dork. But the beauty of this image is that it will change based on which webcam I used most recently: work or home. This is merely one aspect of the planned upgrades/changes/revitalization of the website. What does it mean to you, dear reader?

Nothing. Not an electronic sausage. Now, anyway. But soon!

Britney images have moved

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks
Well, not really. But since I re-did all the category archives to only be links to the individual archives - some of the archives were rather large, and getting re-loaded too frequently for my tastes - I think some of the folks coming to the site in search of Britney Spears photos have been feeling a little... lost. So, the images themselves are collected here for your convenience. If you want to look at the posts related to Ms. Spears, you can go here. Thanks for stopping by!

Annnd, we're back.

Don't know what that was about, but things are better. For now.

Site has gone wacky

Things are amiss, and I'm trying to figure it out. More later.

That was nuts!

Clearly, it's been a while since I posted. In the post move ruckus, I was dealing with the normal change stuff, but when I planned the move, I seem to have forgotten just how extensive my old website was. All kinds of crazy stuff that I don't recall creating/linking to - but it's there, so I must have done it. Apparently.

Anyway, when I'm not checking out the missing file error log, then I've been tweaking things. Oh, and working on the continued success of raising the kids and all that other fun/crazy stuff. Which reminds me: parentingchronicles.com seems to be offline, largely in part due to the way that the site is configured. Sorry, can't change it now, but that will be fixed shortly (I hope).

What's new.... Well, the kids are almost done with school for the year. We had the kindergarten picnic earlier this week - it went well, I thought - and we also bought a new camera: The Canon PowerShot A560. It's a super-fancy 7.1MP digital camera with 4x optical zoom and some other fancy stuff - like the new Automatic Face Finder thingee, which is all the rage with the cool kids of late. If your camera doesn't have that, then you're camera is old and weak. Really. You should just give up and go home ;).

Anyway, like I said it's a great camera. The LCD is 2.5", which is pretty big - much bigger than we're used to. It makes it easy to see what you're getting a photo of, and makes it really easy to make sure you got the right shot. The only bad photos I've taken so far have been the ones with bad poses - or the usual eyes closed thing - I don't think there's a feature that can fix that, but I keep looking....

We've only taken a few photos with it so far, but as I said, they've been mostly good ones. :noah: has a T-Ball game today, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to get some good photos during the game. If not (it will be me and three kids), then I'm hoping to be able to post some of the photos from Kindergarten picnic the other day.

We've also got some exciting stuff going on in the schooling front. Miss Abigail (Miss B or just plain :abby: ) is making the exciting from pre-school to Kindergarten. We don't know who her teacher will be next year (although we're liking Ms. Griffin after all of Noah's success this year) we're sure she'll do fine.

Noah is moving up to the multi-age program. I think I've covered this before, but it's two classrooms that are both 1st and 2nd graders. It's a co-operative learning environment. I don't know much about the theories behind it, I just know that the school has had a lot of success with the program, they're proud of it, and :emma: had a good time with it when she was in the program. If our luck holds, Abby will be in the program in two years, which would mean that she and Noah will be together in some of their classes. Hopefully they'll do a little better dealing with each other than they do now - but since that's in two years, I'm hopeful that things will be ok.

:ethan: is progressing nicely. We're not doing anything formal with him, but he's a bit of a sponge when it comes to learning things. He's working on colors, knows a shape or two, and is just a great, funny little monkey. He's got more than a few words under his belt, and he's starting to put toddler sentences together, which makes everyones lives easier ("I want cookie" is much more likely to get a cookie and no tears than "That!" and a lot of pointing in a general direction). Plus, who doesn't love hearing "Daddy!" shouted when he spots me coming home and then a big hug from a little monkey? The other kids are all "Oh, hey, your home - can I have a snack?" or something.

Well, I think that's enough updating for now. Emma's got a party to go to, I have to get ready and then get the other three ready for the T-Ball game, and then there's supposed to be some time for some lawn mowing later today, I hope. Well, maybe. Photos and updates, and will hopefully resume on a more frequent basis starting later today - depending on how T-Ball goes, I should think.

Move update

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks
I moved the site, but not all the files have come with me. Some I'm leaving behind on purpose, others have moved and I'm not done fixing, and still others I just plain haven't had time to move yet. I'm working on it, mmmkay?

Brief Hiatus...

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

So, obviously it's been a while since I posted, and here's why: I've decided to take a brief break from the blogging.

It's been busy at work, and busy at home, and I think I just have too many things going on right now. One of them is a redesign of this site, which will also turn into a move so that it's hosted in the proper place - off the family website.

I'm hoping to be back mid- or late-April, but as usual, time will tell.

Thanks for your patience and understanding - really!

General update

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

Two out of four kids have ear infections. Nice.

Lamont lost to Lieberman - I'm sorry, but I'm not surprised. I really don't want to get into the debate about all this crap, but I agree that Lamont lost because he made the election about Lieberman, not the issues. Either way, we're not going to leave Iraq anytime soon, and I honestly don't know what the heck Lieberman has to do with that - HE isn't the one who got us into this quagmire, Bush is. Let's focus on getting him out of the Oval office, then we can address Joe's problems.

Britney Spears: yes, she's getting a divorce. Yeah. I think I already addressed this. The reason I mention it: she drives a lot of traffic to my site. Not her personally, of course..... People looking for photos of her. I'll save you the trouble: look here - they're all in one place. I might add some to the page. Why?

I used to include the posts about Britney in the "Posts" category. Now that page is about 2mb in size. When the search engines spider the site, they put that page in their index under Britney Spears, even though it's not really appropriate. I've taken the liberty of removing those posts from the page, but also of using a robots.txt file to block spider access to that page. Since doing that, traffic to that page - and my monthly bandwidth usage - have shot way down. Coincidence? I think not.

I've noticed that the Britney page is making it's way up the "popular pages" list, but not quite as quick as I expected. I wonder how long it will take for the photos page to make the list? Let's find out.

Renaming files on the entire site....

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

Earlier today, I implemented a neat tool: mt-refsearch, which looks at the referer that directs people to this site and does something with that info - hi-lights the search info. You can check it out here and choose the fourth link (the one to my site). The problem with that is that it's a PHP script, so I had to have it load as a PHP script. Since pretty much the entire site is setup as server-parsed HTML files, that didn't work.

My choices: don't bother, or rename just about every file on the site. I really liked the idea of adding this script to my site, so suddenly I was faced with re-arranging most of the site. Not cool.

The biggest problem this brings up is search engines - they would all be linking to the old files, which won't help things. The last thing I wanted (aside from a missing sidebar, which was also due to this re-arranging) was to then make all the links into the site stop working. What to do?

Initially I worried about rebuilding the whole site with the new code - that only took a few minutes to do. I had to rebuild all the pages (1500+ last I checked), so while that was going on, I started to dig for help. I know that you can use a .htaccess file to redirect things - I've moved other parts of the site with out disruption this way - but I wasn't sure how to pull off redirecting such a huge chunk of the site - pretty much everything in the /archives directory needed to stop looking at the .shtml file and look for a .php file. My initial search ("htaccess redirect wildcard") looked promising, but didn't work out too well - none of the suggestions actually worked for me.

Then I turned to ProNet, which is a mailing list of other MovableType users. I was led first to mamamusings: redirection solution, and then to Weblogging for Poets: weblog Links: Part 2 -- Re-weaving the Broken Web. The second link contains much of the htaccess code I had tried and not been able to use, but between the two of them, I was able to take some heavy lifting off my shoulders - creating a new index page, for example, that had the full path to the file complete with the new path to the file. I could then do some simple find/replaces to make it match the format I needed, then paste the whole thing into my htaccess file.

I'm a little worried about all those redirects in my top-level htaccess file, so I'm considering moving them, but I'm going to watch things for a few days. Because I've coded things up right from the start (I hope), I should only need to keep them in the htaccess file for a couple of weeks, until the search engines pick up that the filenames have change:

Redirect permanent /archives/2006/10/18/parenting_chronicles_moved.shtml http://adam.gerstein.net/archives/2006/10/18/parenting_chronicles_moved.php

Hopefully I'll be able to figure out how to get my wildcard search to work at some point, but I'm not overly worried - the stuff that's in there is what I need for older entries, and newer entries will be taken care of automatically by the search engines (since they already have the new filenames).

Hopefully, this info will assist someone else who's having similar troubles somewhere down the line. Or come in handy for me when I forget about all of this in about 2 days.

Parenting Chronicles moved

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

I've just moved the "Parenting Chronicles" domain name I own over to my blog site - sort of. It goes to a sub-directory. It doesn't matter to most visitors, but if you came here looking for my installation of Lilina, then you'll have to wait until it's moved over, if I even decide to do that.

In the mean time, as I post stuff in my "parenting" category, this site will update along with it. I hope.

More changes are coming, when and if I have time.

As you probably know by now, I have, in the past, been a big fan of Britney Spears. That's changed a bit with her marraige to "K-Fed", and the birth of their son Sean. But the underlying feelings are there - they're just covered up with varying layers of disgust and disbelief.

Regardless, I bring you the following tidbit:

BrooklynPapers.com: OH MAMA! Nude Britney sculpture in Billyburg

Someone made an interesting statue of Britney "giving birth" to her son. It's interesting, but I wonder how she feels about it.

In Britney related news, I've noticed quite a bit of traffic to this site, and more specifically to my "posts" category. Why? We'll, it seems that many people are searching for Britney, and they're using various image search engines. Aside from all the porn stars named Britney, there are various images on my site that have her name in the title, so they come up. It's also a context thing - in amongst my posts on the topic, I've posted some photos of the lass. They are picked up by the search engines, and.... well, I'm sure you can figure it out.

The problem is that the link they travel to most - the "posts" category archive - is also 1.6 mb in size as I write this. That's 1.6 mb of just text - that doesn't include any of the photos that also come from my server, or images that go elsewhere. Now, I'm not complaining about the amount of the download as it relates to my bandwidth allocation - it's more of a concern for the end user that they're wasting their time.

If they're looking for a photo of Britney, they shouldn't have to read through all my posts to get to them. They probably don't care, and honestly, they probably don't even read them - they just scroll until they find the image. Some of them then link to it from their own website, which naturally brings about another set of isssues, but I've got plans in place to deal with that. But what do I do to get them to the photos they want and on their way quickly? And without taking a bandwidth hit?

Suggests are appreciated - I'm thinking maybe something that looks at each page that's loaded (maybe just the category pages) to see if it's a referal from a search engine, then it looks to see what the search terms are. Depending on that, it will then do something else - maybe take them to the Britney page instead?

In the meantime, I've just added "posts" to the robots.txt file, so it should stop getting indexed soon - and I'm hoping that by making this the first post on that page (at least for a day or two) that it will help alleviate some of the load.

Thoughts? Comments?

del.icio.us tags redux

| 2 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

As you may have noticed, I've changed the look of the homepage a little bit: I added Technorati tags to all the posts. I also added a link to bookmark each post on del.icio.us.

But the point of all this? I've borrowed from someone else's work and modified it a bit to make the same keywords that it links to technorati also link to del.icio.us.

90% Crud: TechnoratiTags

I've had a Technorati account for a while, and I've been using del.icio.us for a while too - del.icio.us is an awesome for online bookmarking, btw - so I've been using the whole "tagging" thing for a while. Add Flickr to the mix, and you've got some interesting ideas - I tag a post with "macintosh", then add a link to the Technorati and del.icio.us sites, and people can extend the connection between what I type/say and what they find online. It's really kind of cool.

The reason I mention it is that I've just configured this site to add a Technorati and del.icio.us link/tags to the bottom of every post (check them out). I wonder if I should track the clicks on those links to see if anyone finds them useful.....

Commenting

It's come to my attention that there is no way to actually leave a comment unless you're registered. Problem is, there's no easy way to register at this time.

I'm all over it, and hope to have a fix later this weekend.

That is all.

Blacklist stuff for MT

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

First and foremost, I love having this blog and all the chances it gives me to vent/share things. But if there's one thing I hate about it, it's all the idiots out there who seem to think that my website is there for them to spam and take advantage of. You know who you are, and cut it out.

Having said that, I've found a new resource in my battle against said idiots: MT-ProxyPlug. It checks to see if the commenter is coming through an open web-proxy and shuts them out. I don't really like that part - I'd rather have it moderate - but the consensus on the page of the plugin seems to be that when they come in this way, it's for no good, so what the heck.

I'm also happy to report that MT-Blacklist, which I've been using almost since it came out, is kicking ass and taking names.

Some stats:
Comment spams blocked: 19923
Comment spams moderated: 3600
Duplicates blocked: 84

That means that out of all the posts I've dealt with personally, 3600 have been moderated because they fit MT-Blacklists profile of spam - and I'd say about 99% of the time, it's dead on. It also means that 19,923 times someone tried to "comment" on my site and link to their site, a site that was intended to make them money or sell some cheap ass product or just generally take advantage of the interweb thingee. That's 19,923 comments that I never ever ever ever had to see - it just took care of them. That's like 40 hours of work that it saved me. Maybe less, I don't know - but that's not the point - it's that the plugin not only works, it KICKS ASS.

I've very glad that Jay now works for SixApart.

Listen up, chucklehead

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

First and foremost, for all you blog spammers out there: cut it the hell out. I'm sick of your links, your insipid attempts to make things look "legit", and the fact that I have to take time out of my life - time I don't usually have - to clear your crap off my website is not amusing me. One. Bit.

I made this analogy of the problem to my parents one day:
It's like when you come back to your car after shopping at the mall, and find that someone was kind enough to shove a menu for a new restaurant under your windshield. Only with the blog spammers, you come back to your car and find that your whole windshield is covered with menus, five or six levels deep. NOT AMUSING.

I took it a bit further, adding that the spyware and virii I've been dealing with at work have me on edge - if I see a PC now, I avoid it unless I have to touch it - and then I feel all dirty after. Anyway, the continued analogy.... You get back to your car, and after getting rid of a metric ton of crap from your windshield, you then find that someone has broken into your car, moved the seats and mirrors, and then taken the liberty of changing all the presets on your radio too. Dirty low life scum sucking idiots.

Second order of business: this website as you know it. I've been doing a lot of thinking about this blog. Well, not a lot really, but it's been a background process that's been processing while I'm busy doing other stuff - sorta like how your computer will continue to print something even though you've moved on to another website. Anywho, here's the thing: I don't do this enough.

Add to that the other blogs I try to maintain (computerboy comes to mind, among others) and you can see that my goal of at least one post a day to at least one blog is failing. Miserably. I also have a photo album blog thing I've been trying to update, and the "family news" site for the family website - not super-important stuff, but it's there, and I'm not updating it like I should - or feel I should - and it's grating on my nerves. Or nerve - might be the last one... ;)

So, I'm going to embark on a tear down of this and some other sites, and re-do and integrate and mess around with and just generally break some stuff. It's going to get bad - much worse - before it gets any better. The long-term goal is to have one site for me, one for the family, and have my site publish to some of the other sites via some tricks I have up my sleeves. I realize that no-one out there cares about this stuff, but unless I write it down, I won't feel motivated to do anything, so what the heck, here it is. Call it a late New Years Resolution - number one in a series, collect them all.

I've also been checking out some other blogs lately. Sure, I've been doing that for years, but it's been a while since I looked at some of the other parenting blogs, and realized just how little I blog about the kids. Part of that is a privacy concern, what with the way the world is all messed up now, but I think I might be able to get away with it. Maybe.

Another thing I noticed is that when I blog, it's not the same as it used to be - I used to put up links throughout the day, and casual observations at the drop of a hat. Now-adays it's these longer posts, usually after I've dealt with some hairy computer problem, which of course makes me NOT want to post at all. It sucks, but that's life, right?

End transmission.

Oh yeah

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

Yes, I know that the "2004" is missing from the date tag. I've known about it since 1/1/04 - it's just one of the myriad of reasons I haven't posted of late.

I'm all over it, ok?

Cam's back and other good stuff

Well, since I'm without my wonderful PowerBook, I thought I'd try using my cam and my PC to see if I can do it. It's not pretty, but there it is - me in all my glory, or something.

My plans for this weekend, besides the whole Christmas thing, include doing some site changes once I figure out how to properly get my site onto the PC and not kill myself or anyone/anything in the process.

I might try to finish my collosal site redesign over the weekend, but I think it probably won't happen - it's still very much in flux in my head, and besides, I'm hoping to have some new toys to play with!

Online advertising still works?

Blogging for Dollars reports on Matt's efforts to start a new blog and his amazing results.

I added adsense banners to my site (up top a ways) back in September, and I've done a decent bit of business - but not as much as I'd hoped. I'm not saying that I want to be rich off of it - not that I'd complain - but I was hoping for a better response rate. I think some of it has to do with a lot of the ads being generic "blogging" ads - which I guess sort of applies to me. I realize that Matt's right about focusing the site to get better ads - so I'll have to come up with a better idea, I guess.

Over all, I've got a bunch of ads on the site - all unobtrusive, or so I think - and I guess they're doing ok. Some could be better placed to get more exposure, but since the current design is more cobled together than designed, it's really my own fault.

If you haven't noticed yet, I've started a bit of a redesign. I decided there was too much fluff/crap in the side navigations, so I removed some of it. I've got a better design in my head, but I have to figure out how to get it coded - and since I'm going to do it, I should figure out how to do it right and use XHTML, I guess.

Anyone have any suggestions?

In a fit of.... ennui, I guess, I changed the individual links - so guess what? A bunch of stuff broke. Oh well.

The links now go to something like "/2003/10/11/Ch-ch-changes.shtml" or other. If you wanted to see all the posts from a specific day, you could simply go to "/2003/10/11/" and get an index page. I don't know if this is going to help or hurt my efforts, but what the heck, right?

In other news, I tried to have the cam online again the other night, only to discover that I had maxed out my disk space quota. Since I'm administering the server for myself, I could have just bumped it up, but it occurred to me - where the heck had the 250 mb gone to? It's not like I have a ton of photos on the site, and most of what I do have are fairly small, size-wise. I haven't figured it out just yet, but when I do, I'll probably whack myself upside the head for accidentally uploading a Photoshop file or some such.

In the mean time.....

It took until today for someone to mention that the comments links don't work. It's all my fault, but it was interesting - I did notice that I hadn't had many comments of late, but figured it was 'cause life round these parts has been boring.

Carry on.

Doh!

Turns out when I moved to the new server, I forgot to take my index.rss file with me. I just created one, so hopefully I'll ping in more often - and properly - now.

I totally forgot that when I moved my blog, I was going to be re-importing all the entries - and they would get new ID #'s. So now I'm getting traffic from various search engines that's pointing people to pages that either don't exist or have the wrong content on them.

Oooops.
